Will a consumer be “blacklisted” for being under debt counselling?

No. A consumer who is under debt counselling will have a Debt Counselling flag placed on his/her credit bureau profile. This is not negative, but an indication that the consumer has been declared overindebted and placed under debt counselling.

Upon paying off your debt, DebtMap will issue you with a clearance certificate indicating that all your debts are paid up. Credit bureaus will be updated in order to facilitate the process of building your credit score and be in a position to participate in the credit market

It is actually in your best interest to apply for Debt Counselling than to wait until your name is enlisted with a Judgement or default on the credit bureau. A judgement has far reaching consequences than Debt Counselling
